Baldcypress (Taxodium distichum) South of Swimming Hole

In 1977 several small baldcypress seedlings (see picture above) were planted along the creek, two above the swimming hole area. Nearly all of these are now large trees. The creek at this point is wide and flat, the water thus somewhat more shallow. In the severe 2006 drought the creek continued to trickle on the east (left) side. But in 2009 the entire creek dried up at this point in May. The baldcypress, which normally turns rusty and drops its needles in late October and in November (see the pictures below for October and November in several years), in 2009 began to turn yellow already in June (see pictures at bottom) and by the end of July had very few needles.
