1977 — looking south toward Purola

Where Deadman's Creek Exits Purola Preserve (North End)
N. Hays County

by Bob Harms ()
Deadman's Creek disappears underground shortly after crossing Purola's north boundary. Several very small baldcypress seedlings were planted along the bank in 1977, and three of these have grown large (the others were trampled by Burt Hurlbut's cattle before I installed a 3–strand barbedwire fence). Purola's north section of the creek went dry for the first time in August 2006 (see below). In the drought of 2008–2009 it dried out again. The largest baldcypress never really leafed out in spring 2009 and the other two were turning brown by June.
